A four-year standout for the Pittsburgh Panthers, Young became one of the most exciting players in college basketball during the late 2000s. He finished his Pitt career with 1,884 points, ranking fourth in program history, and earned First Team All-Big East honors in both 2008 and 2009.

Young was named Big East Most Improved Player in 2008 and was the 2008 Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player after averaging 20 points, seven rebounds, and 2.5 blocks during Pitt's run to the tournament championship. He helped lead the Panthers to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2009 Elite Eight, and was selected in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Known for his athleticism, powerful dunks, smooth scoring ability, and signature pump fake, Young became a fan favorite at the Petersen Events Center and one of the defining players of Pitt's dominant Big East era.
