A four-year standout for the West Virginia Mountaineers, Pittsnogle became one of the most unique big men in college basketball, combining his 6-foot-11 frame with an elite ability to shoot from three-point range. The Martinsburg, West Virginia native helped lead WVU to the 2005 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and a second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance in 2006.

Pittsnogle finished his West Virginia career with 1,708 points and 253 made three-pointers, while shooting 41.1% from beyond the arc. In 2006, he became West Virginia's first basketball All-American since 1972, earning First Team All-Big East honors and recognition on the John Wooden All-America Team.
